The Center for Ancient History and Culture (CAHC) hosts academic workshops, discussion meetings, and seminars bringing together traditional scholars, modern researchers, and scientists to explore ancient Indian scientific traditions.
National Workshop on Indian Astronomy Before Common Era (IABCE)
Supported by IKS Division, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India
A week-long national workshop bringing together scholars of astronomy, mathematics, Sanskrit, and history to explore India's pre-Common-Era scientific heritage. Features recorded lectures, outlines, and discussion sessions.
Interdisciplinary Discussion Meeting on Indian Astronomy Before Common Era
Co-organized with IKS Division, MoE, Govt. of India
A two-day panel discussion featuring eminent scholars representing Vedic, Sanskrit, and modern scientific institutions across India and Nepal. Includes session outlines, panelist details, and published research papers.
Academic lectures, presentations, and interactive tutorials delivered by CAHC researchers and collaborators on ancient Indian sciences, astronomy, and chronology.
Tools for Ancient Indian Astronomy and Cosmography
Presented by: Sunder Chakravarty
A two-session hands-on tutorial demonstrating visual and computational tools to verify ancient Indian astronomical concepts. Session 1 covers Meru cosmography, North Celestial Pole (Dhruva) drift, and the sun's Uttarayana/Dakshinayana paths using Stellarium. Session 2 extends to lunar orbits, the equinoctial full moon search (via Astropy), and eclipse calculations.
Indian Astronomy through Observations from Ancient Periods
Presented by: Sunder Chakravarty
An introductory slide series on observational foundations of Indian astronomy. Focuses on the rhythms of the sun and moon, lunar months, Luni-Solar calendar systems (Panchanga, Tithi, Masa), and the axial precession dating method using nakshatra shifts.
Transit of Sun through Seasonal Nakṣatras
Presented by: Sunder Chakravarty
Presented research conducted with Prof. R. N. Iyengar on the path of the sun through the seasonal nakshatra cycles. Details the solar epochs, equinox alignments, and their implications for establishing ancient Indian chronology.
Vṛddhagarga Vāstuvidyā
Presented by: Warija Adiga
An analysis of ancient Indian civil and architectural planning traditions (Vastu) based on the Vṛddhagarga Vāstuvidyā text critically edited by CAHC.
Dating Maghādi and Śraviṣṭhādi Epochs
Presented by: Sunder Chakravarty
Explores the Nakṣatra Solar Zodiac from Vedic times, detailing the mathematical and astronomical models to date the summer and winter solstice alignments in the Vrddhagargiya Jyotisa and Brahmanda Purana.
Vedic Astronomy, Time & Pole Star (Dhruva) Studies
Presented by: Prof. R. N. Iyengar & CAHC Team
A compilation of expert presentations delivered during the two-day panel discussion co-organized with the Ministry of Education's IKS Division.
Śrautakarmasu Vaijñānikī Dṛṣṭiḥ (Sanskrit)
Presented by: Prof. R. N. Iyengar
A presentation delivered in Sanskrit addressing scientific and geometric perceptions in Vedic Śrauta rituals, with a focus on Darshapurnamasa altar constructions.
Importance of the Legend of Dhruva for Indian Chronology
Presented by: Prof. R. N. Iyengar
Analyzes the astronomical significance of the Dhruva/Pole Star narratives in Vedic literature to determine the chronological overlap between Vedic and Harappan eras.
Precession of Equinoxes & Sun's Transit in the Vrddha-Gargiya Jyotisa
Presented by: Sunder Chakravarty
Explores solar transit observations described in the Aditya Chara and Rtu Svabhava chapters of the Vrddha-Gargiya Jyotisa, tracing the historical precession of solstices.
Vedic Roots of Puranic Astronomy & Celestial Aśva Sūkta
Presented by: Prof. R. N. Iyengar & Sudarshan H. S.
Research papers and presentation abstracts delivered at the BIHS conference in Mumbai, documenting the Vedic origin of Puranic astronomical models.
